Electrician, HM Forces
He, Him · S36 6EP

I am a highly experienced Military Engineer (Electrical) with over 20 years of global service, now seeking to transition into a college teaching role where I can pass on practical skills, technical knowledge, and professional discipline to the next generation of electricians. My career has taken me from apprentice to Lead Sergeant, supporting UK forces across deployments in Afghanistan, Iraq, Cyprus, Belize, Jordan, Diego Garcia, and the UK — often working independently in high-pressure environments to deliver electrical readiness for critical infrastructure, including hospital-grade installations and deployable medical facilities. I hold a Level 3 qualification in Inspection & Testing (2391) and recently achieved City & Guilds Assured certification as an Authorised Person Electrical Low Voltage (APLV). In 2020, I undertook one year of Electrical Engineering study with the University of Greenwich, passing all first-year modules and further strengthening my academic foundation. Throughout my career, I’ve led structured competency training, contributed to the development of Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), and mentored junior electricians and medics in electrical safety, resilience, and operational standards. My instructional leadership has included pre-deployment training, technical construction tasks, and disaster relief operations — all delivered with precision, adaptability, and a commitment to learner development. Beyond my military role, I coach swimming and football for young people aged 9–18, helping them build confidence, discipline, and teamwork. This experience has deepened my understanding of youth development and reinforced my ability to adapt teaching styles to suit different learners — skills I bring into every instructional setting. I am confident in planning and delivering lessons, assessing progress, and supporting learners with diverse needs. My interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and deep respect for health and safety legislation make me well-suited to the collaborative and learner-focused culture at Barnsley College. I am committed to working towards a Level 4 teaching qualification and excited to contribute to a values-led institution that invests in its staff and learners.
